As the state capital, home to a major research university and largest city in South Carolina, Columbia combines history, arts and southern charm. From the quaint historic homes to the bustling entertainment districts and outdoor experiences, this “famously hot” city offers endless opportunities for adventure.
Columbia has a rich historic background and plentiful opportunities to experience that history on any given day. Immerse yourself in history at the national and state level at one of Columbia’s many museums or historic homes.
Stop by the South Carolina State House and go for a leisurely stroll through the capitol’s grounds or make a reservation for a guided tour.
Columbia is also home to many gorgeous historic house museums. One of our local non-profit organizations, Historic Columbia, offers many daily house and garden tours, walking tours and guided bus tours.
The South Carolina Governor’s Mansion, situated in the heart of historic Columbia, hosts tours for individuals and groups. See where more than thirty governors and their families have called home.
Columbia features a vibrant arts and entertainment scene. For the history buffs, there is the South Carolina State Museum, the largest and most comprehensive museum in the state. If art is more of your thing, plan a trip to the Columbia Museum of Art in the heart of revitalized downtown Columbia.
Head over to the Vista district where you can find dozens of unique and local boutiques, eateries and galleries. Music Farm often hosts concerts and indie acts in a fun and intimate atmosphere. Just a few blocks away is the reinvigorated Main Street District featuring a wide mix of boutique shops, offices and eateries and bars.
Across town, you can enjoy the shopping, food and local vibes of Five Points, Columbia’s quirky village neighborhood of more than 100 years, or Devine Street, tucked away in one of Columbia’s oldest residential neighborhoods.
Riverbanks Zoo and Garden is home to more than 2,000 animals and features one of the most beautiful botanical gardens in the country. There is plenty to explore throughout the 170-acre site.
The Three Rivers Greenway, consisting of the Cayce-West Columbia Riverwalk Park and Columbia's Riverfront Park, offers walking history tours, wonderful views of the rivers and miles of trails to run or walk.
Softdocs’ new headquarters is located at 807 Bluff Road, just steps away from Willliams-Brice Stadium. Our newly renovated office is anything but ordinary. Once a former textile mill that produced all of the fabric for L.L. Bean tote bags, it is now a modernized and unique workspace featuring bold architecture and plenty of room to grow.
